Maceteros mutantes furniture

Finalists of the Muebles de Patio contest for Libros Mutantes Madrid Art Book Fair 2016

The proposal of furniture for this edition of Mutant Books La Casa Encendida consists of twelve pieces in the shape of giant pots. Each piece is a polyhedron: a truncated pyramid of hexagonal base.

Each participant will have a third of the space of each piece, where you can store publications, support them and hang (horizontal support space is 1.60 m long linear to a depth of 80cm). The public will consult the various publications circulate comfortably and smoothly throughout space as there are more than 1.5 meters between the pieces.

Wood, nylon straps and screws: three types of materials are used only. Which they are renewable and light, therefore very efficient.
The structure is made up of wooden slats of pine cut so that they fit into the rings: three hexagonal horizontal rings of different sizes (60cm side, 80 and 100) which are assembled by pieces and screws; subsequently they are joined by vertical bars (cut slats). The wood can be reused and does not produce polluting waste. The cutting can be performed manually. very little energy is spent to build each piece. The structure of the piece has the quality that invested continues to operate as stand for publications, which may result in different combinations in space.

The support of books and magazines is made up of interlaced nylon ribbons 3 colors, which, bolted and tied to the structure will support all necessary burden since they are highly resistant. widely used material, for example, in backpacks, loading and unloading animals straps, belts blind … The assembly is very simple, since it would be only to tighten the belts and screw to the structure. So that all procedures are do it yourself. These tapes can also be reused in many things in the future, and do not generate any residue.
At the end of the show Mutantes Books, the pots will be reused in the Ignited House as exhibitors and tables for the terrace. Later can be rented for shows such as desks, information points in streets and squares of Madrid, kiosks, stalls pools or beaches, tables for outdoor parties … the we can also donate some sort of organization you need it furniture of this type, neighborhood association, etc. And if there is always the option of dismantling and reuse materials for the manufacture of other furniture or reuse parts and give them another use.
What is certain is that we believe is a novel, original and fun approach, and above all, feasible in time and budget.

La propuesta de mobiliario para esta edición de Libros Mutantes de La Casa Encendida se compone de doce piezas en forma de maceteros gigantes. Cada pieza es un poliedro: una pirámide truncada de base hexagonal. Cada participante contará con un tercio del espacio de cada pieza, donde podrá guardar las publicaciones, apoyarlas y colgarlas (el espacio de soporte horizontal es de 1,60m lineales de largo hasta una profundidad de 80cm). El público consultará las distintas publicaciones de manera cómoda y circular con fluidez por todo el espacio, ya que hay más de un 1,5 metros de distancia entre las piezas.

Se utilizan sólo tres tipos de materiales: maderas, cintas de nylon y tornillos. Los cuales son renovables y ligeros, por lo tanto muy eficientes.

La estructura está conformada por listones de madera de pino cortados de manera que encajan en los anillos: tres anillos horizontales hexagonales de diferentes tamaños (de 60cm de lado, 80 y 100) que se ensamblan mediante unas piezas y unos tornillos; posteriormente son unidos por las barras verticales (los listones cortados). La madera se puede reutilizar y no produce residuos contaminantes. El corte se puede realizar manual. Se gastaría muy poca energía en construir cada pieza. La estructura de la pieza tiene la cualidad que al invertirse sigue funcionando como stand para las publicaciones, pudiendo dar lugar a diferentes combinaciones en el espacio.

El soporte de los libros y revistas es entrelazado conformado por unas cintas de nylon de 3 colores, que, atornilladas y anudadas a la estructura soportarán toda la carga necesaria ya que son altamente resistentes. Material muy empleado, por ejemplo, en mochilas, carga y descarga, correas para animales, cintas de persiana… El montaje es muy sencillo, ya que se trataría sólo de tensar las cintas y atornillarlas a la estructura. Por lo que todos los procedimientos son do it yourself. Estas cintas se pueden también reutilizar en muchas cosas en el futuro, y no generan ningún residuo.

Al finalizar la feria Libros Mutantes, los maceteros se reutilizarán en La Casa Encendida como expositores y mesas para la terraza. Posteriormente se pueden alquilar para ferias como mostradores, puntos de información en calles y plazas de Madrid, kioskos, puestos de piscinas o playas, mesas para fiestas al aire libre… También las podemos donar a algún tipo de organización que le haga falta mobiliario de este tipo, asociación de vecinos, etc. Y si no siempre queda la opción de desmontarlos y reutilizar los materiales para la fabricación de otros muebles o reutilizar algunas partes y darles otro uso.

Lo que es seguro es que creemos que es una propuesta novedosa, original y divertida, y, sobre todo, factible en tiempo y presupuesto.
